Hagelin refuses to leave, or even denounce the Maharishi's Natural Law Party. He is their presidential candidate.      I have a few questions. Why is anyone in the RP supporting a candidate who will run in opposition to our Party on the November ballot? If the Crew and Fulani support Hagelin why don't they join the Natural Law Party (NLP)? If they continue to promote Hagelin are they not working at odds with the RP goal of winning the November election? It's time for Hagelin supporters to tell their candidate to either resign from the NLP and join the RP -- or follow him to the NLP. The Maharishi is best known as the "Giggling Guru" who brought Transcendental Meditation (TM) to the Beatles, Mia Farrow, and other '60s celebrities.... Most recently, he urged his followers to found the Natural Law Party, headed by Dr. John Hagelin in the United States...     In 1992, the Maharishi urged his followers to enter global politics to avert coming global calamity. At his direction, leaders of the Transcendental Meditation movement founded the Natural Law Party and entered political campaigns in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and many other countries. The thrust of the Natural Law Party's platform has been securing government funding for teaching Transcendental Meditation to American citizens. TM and other programs of the Maharishi have been found to be religious in several U.S. federal court cases. TM outsiders seem to slide right by this piece of TM jargon, perhaps assuming it means allegiance to some pseudo-scientific rigamarole. After all, John Hagelin, the head of the Natural Law Party-USA is, or was, a physicist. As reasonable as it sounds, however, this explanation is only partly true....    TM teachers know that natural law is inextricably intertwined with the Hindu Gods like Indra, Lakshmi, and Ganesh....     But the concept of natural law has a much more specific meaning within the innermost circles of TM: It literally refers to the "Laws of Manu," the smriti or Vedic law to which every TM teacher must swear allegiance..... So by claiming publicly not to be religious -- all the while gradually instructing his followers in the finer points of Hinduism -- the Maharishi has been able to amass a fortune that should by all rights be illegal under the constitutions of most of the nations on Earth 07/08/00  MAHARISHI'S HOODWINKING OF AMERICA - COMING OUT OF THE HINDU CLOSET ..... The Transcendental Meditation movement for years has secretly been performing sacrifices to Hindu gods...    Say what? Cute, little "yes-we-are-a-science-and-not-a-religion" TM? Harmless, wacky Natural Law Party? ....     Problem was, it was all a lie. A deliberate lie. When your TM teacher insisted at your introductory lecture that TM was not religious, he or she was looking you in the eye and lying -- usually without so much as a blush ....     the Maharishi's organizations, the TM movement, Maharishi Ayur-Veda, the Natural Law party all promote performing yagyas -- Hindu sacrifices, performed on special calendar days, that involve making traditional offerings of ghee, flowers, incense, hymns, and more to statues of the gods....     Courts have ruled that TM is a religion, and under U.S. tax law, religions are not allowed to directly participate in political campaigns, at the risk of losing their tax-exempt status. The real issue is that by getting matching funds, the Natural Law Party is using American taxpayers' money to fund TM 07/08/00  POLITICS AND TRANSENDENTAL MEDITATION ..... It is unclear how much, if anything, many of the tens of thousands of voters who registered as members of the Natural Law Party knew about the extent of the group's links to Transcendental Meditation or to its founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.... And leaders of the Natural Law Party deny that their effort is formally connected with the Transcendental Meditation movement.... "The party is very closely linked with the TM movement," said John Knapp, who was part of the movement for 20 years before quitting in 1990. "Almost everyone high up in the party is a TM-er." ...     Hagelin said he does not know how many of the party's candidates in California are TM practitioners. But when a reporter asked the eight candidates gathered in San Francisco if they were involved in the movement, all raised their hands.     The Maharishi and Hagelin have both claimed that a small number of advanced meditators forming a "coherence-creating group" in one spot can have amazing effects on others... The movement gathered a few thousand "Yogic flyers" in Washington, D.C. and claimed that as a result of their activity, the local crime rate plummeted.   Those outside the movement failed to see any such cause-and-effect relationship.    Hagelin has recently suggested that NATO use 2,000 TM experts in Bosnia to create another "coherence-creating group"...  Critics call the movement a cult whose teachings... have drawn warnings from the German government and the Cult Awareness Network, among others. Bob Roth, a spokesman at the Natural Law Party headquarters in Iowa, said it has been no secret that the party is connected with the TM movement. "There has been extensive coverage about TM and the party. It's no secret this is the TM party." The formation of the U.S. [Natural Law] party ... followed a directive from the Maharishi in the early 1990s that his followers get involved in politics. Hagelin was also the party's presidential candidate in 1992, when the campaign got on the ballot in 32 states... 07/08/00  TM'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HAGELIN CALLS FOR "BRAIN" TEST ..... John Hagelin, the presidential candidate of Transcendental Meditation's Natural Law Party, challenged George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot in July to submit to a "brain-mapping" to measure if they are mentally fit for the White House. "This is a tool that so far government has not used - and I suspect I know the reason why," said the 39-year-old TM practitioner and physicist. He said he has already been brain tested by electroencephalogram and claimed to rank in the top 1 percent among those who have submitted to an EEG. The Natural Law party [which has candidates contesting numerous constituencies around the country] wants to use meditation to cure the nation's ills. (From "Candidates Challenged to Mental Test," by Bull Workman, San Francisco Chronicle, 7/10/92, A2) 07/08/00  NATURAL LAW PARTY [NLP] CALLS FOR TM TO BE TAUGHT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS [According to the NLP] .....Experience at over 300 schools around the world and at many universities has shown that consciousness-based education delivers huge benefits to students and their teachers.... These benefits can be delivered without changing current curricula. All that is required is an additional lesson of about 10 minutes daily for each age group and a few minutes’ daily practice of Transcendental Meditation. The results have been spectacular for tens of thousands of primary, secondary and tertiary students around the world.... An example - by no means atypical - of how school performance can be enhanced by consciousness-based education is provided by the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa.... Maharishi personally knew of, and was therefore responsible for, the damage being done in the name of his organizations but his general attitude was to leave it alone or conceal it because the community would lose faith in the TM movement. His basic attitude towards the concealment of the religious nature of TM was: "When America is ready for Hinduism I will tell them" 07/08/00  ATTORNEY ACCUSES MAHARISHI AND TM "SCIENTISTS" OF FRAUD .....In this document, DeNaro alleges -- with force of sworn testimony -- a very serious and deliberate pattern of fraud, designed ... to misrepresent the TM movement as a science (not as a cult), and fraudulently claim and obtain tax exempt status with the IRS.... A disturbing denial or avoidance syndrome, and even outright lies and deception, are used to cover-up or sanitize the dangerous reality on campus of very serious nervous breakdowns, episodes of dangerous and bizarre behavior, suicidal and homicidal ideation, threats and attempts, psychotic episodes, crime, depression and manic behavior that often accompanied roundings (intensive group meditations with brainwashing techniques).... The consequences of intensive, or even regular, meditation was so damaging and disruptive to the nervous system, that students could not enroll in, or continue with, regular academic programs... 07/08/00  NOTES OF A FRINGE WATCHER: DOUG HENNING AND THE GIGGLING GURU .....Because magic is my main hobby I feel a keener regret than most people over the way in which the Hindu cult of Transcendental Meditation (TM) has taken over the life of one of the best of modern magicians.... A lot of people may be wondering why I never told my mother, a teacher or someone else who could help me. First, I was not aware that what was happening was not normal. From such an early age men molested me. I did not know there was something wrong with it. I knew it felt funny, but growing up I was always told that meditation was protection, that nothing bad could happen to you if you meditated. 07/08/00  THE MAHARISHI'S CHILDREN ..... In the 1980s' German Study and Kropinski trial, outsiders got their first hint that all was not well with the children of the TM Movement. We heard stories of parental neglect, child abuse, and autistic-like symptoms. In the late 80s, The Illustrated Weekly of India published allegations of widespread child abuse on the Maharishi's personal compound in Noida, India.    Now in the most shocking submission ever made to TranceNet, an adult child of a renowned TM family describes in stunning detail her childhood in Fairfield, Iowa, the center of the TM Movement in the US, where the Maharishi told us to expect "Heaven on Earth." Fair warning: strong language and explicit sexual situations follow. Those wishing to avoid "negativity" would be well advised to read no further.... 07/08/00  MEDITATION, DELUSION AND DECEPTION .....TM witnesses swore that the chant was a purely secular expression of gratitude to teachers. However, Judge Meanor read an English translation prepared by TM and found not one word of thanks in it. Rather, the chant describes a deified Guru Dev as "the Lord" and "Him" (with a capital aitch), among a slew of divine epithets quoted by Judge Meanor. For example:    The Unbounded, like the endless canopy of the sky, the omnipresent in all creation .... to Him, to Shri Guru Dev, I bow down..... the Eternal, the Pure, the Immovable .... to Shri Guru Dev, I bow down.... 07/08/00  THE MAHARISH CAPER: OR HOW TO HOODWINK TOP MEDICAL JOURNALS .....From time to time, even the most prestigious science journals publish erroneous or fraudulent data, unjustified conclusions, and sometimes balderdash. Balderdash was the right word when The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published the article, "Maharishi Ayur-Veda: Modern Insights Into Ancient Medicine," in its May 22/29 issue. Discovering that they had been deceived by the article's authors, the editors published a correction in the August 14 issue, which was followed on October 2 by a six-page expose on the people who had hoodwinked them.... 07/08/00  GURU'S MARKETING SCHEME PROMISES THE WORLD ETERNAL 'PERFECT HEALTH' .....If the claims of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi prove true, those who follow him soon will be blessed with eternal youth, "perfect health," and the "strength of an elephant." They will be able to "walk through walls," make themselves "invisible," and "fly through the air" without the benefit of machines.    In addition, there will be no more war or crime. Automobile accidents will be a thing of the past, and even the weather will have to obey their collective consciousness.    Such are the widely promoted claims of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement and Maharishi Ayur-Veda... TM's argument was once so successful that public schools used federal funds to teach its "meditation." The Newark, N.J., judge cited information about students being forced into "incense- filled rooms" barefoot to worship the so-called "Geru Dev," a "Divine Master." They had to sing Hindu chants ... 07/05/00  CULTIST HAGELIN FOLLOWING ORDERS .....Gathering behind John Hagelin, the founder and the 1996 presidential candidate of the little-known Natural Law Party, the group is planning to turn the convention into a raucous mob scene that will be portrayed as a party of disorganized rabble by the Establishment media and thus destroy Buchanan's chances in November ... 06/26/00  CULT ALERT - MONTANA PATRIOTS ON DUTY! .....I just got word that cult leader John Hagelin and his Maharishi Flying Carpets from the Natural Law Party will attempt to take over the MT Party. If tales of violence, kidnapping, and drugs, as well as the financial scandals and charges of child molestation that have dogged the TM movement aren't enough to discredit Hagelin and his fellow wackos, then what about some recent political pronouncements from the Vatican of the TM movement, Maharishi U, which are quite, uh, interesting, to say the least... Please spare me the outraged letters from NLPers protesting that their fruit-loopy party has no formal connection with TM or the Maharishi: as party leader Bob Roth, at the NLP's headquarters in Iowa, told the San Francisco Chronicle, "There has been extensive coverage about TM and the party. It's no secret this is the TM party." In looking at Hagelin, and the rest of the characters that are yelping about the prospect of a Buchanan candidacy, I am struck by what a gaggle of cranks they appear to be - yet they are eagerly quoted by such "mainstream" media outlets as AP, Reuters, and Salon, as if their pronouncements had news value or significance, and deserve to be taken seriously....
