The Unfair Obstacle
Date: February 2,
2000 To: Senator Joseph I.
Lieberman
A recent rule instituted by the FEC(Federal Elections Commission)
will be imposed on the
People's Election Process. This process is best implemented when it is
open to ALL. This rule will seriously augment that process by an
application that presents an unfair obstacle. The rule essentially places
a 15% acceptance level on candidates to be included in the Presidential
Debates that are presented by the networks on a national level. This 15%
is to be determined by a poll conducted by the networks. These same
networks donate to the two entrenched political parties and recieve their
remuneration by charging for the airtime used by the party
candidates. In that several levels of qualification have already been met
by the Reform Party I feel this is a deliberate attempt to impede the
right of the voting public to observe and decide on Presidential
Office seekers. To inhibit this by prematurely assessing the individual
using a polling method that has elements of tainting is unAmerican,
unacceptable and shows an allegience to the status quo. I emphatically
urge you to reverse and undo this rule that represents an attempt to
literally "LOCK" the door of access to the PEOPLE'S right to elect their
own and govern using a just system. In addition, the debates themselves
are an integral link in the journey to presenting a candidate, themselves,
and becoming "VIABLE". To deny the inclusion in the debates is to
suppress that candidates right to free speech and expression. It is a
known fact that no one has met the 15% criteria prior to debates other
than the two entrenched parties. Again, I urge you to give
this matter your full attention and renounce this rule.
Many of us define ourselves as independent thinkers and voters. So, why
not include another choice in the debates? We are a nation of
choices. Our debate process says it is not.
