CALLING BUCHANAN A 'BOMB THROWER'?

Date:   March 31, 1999
To:      Denver Rocky Mountain News

This is in response to Gene Amole's recent column in which he referred to presidential candidate Pat Buchanan as a "maverick Republican bomb thrower." Come on, that's a bit much even for Amole. I know Amole is a liberal and I respect that, but I thought he was a liberal who had at least some respect for the truth. "Bomb-thrower," indeed.

On just what does Amole base this description? That Buchanan doesn't care about the "moderates"? What is a moderate, anyway, except someone who waits to see what others are doing and then goes along with the majority?

That Buchanan is in the race to "protect the innocent unborn"? In today's climate, it takes a lot of guts and a lot of honesty to come out against the baby-killers. And what is "pro-choice," anyway? I'm "pro-choice" and I choose not to kill innocent babies for the convenience of their parents. The "pro-choicers" don't want to give pregnant women a choice, they want them to have an abortion. The very term "pro-choice" is a liberal attempt to dictate the very terms we use in our debate in order to confuse people.

Can Amole prove that Buchanan is wrong about a single thing he cites in his column? Buchanan does "have the statistics on his side," remember? And we do have a "moral deficit" in this country when an admitted perjurer and obstructor of justice, serial adulterer, possible rapist, and just plain criminal sits in the White House and no one seems to want to do anything about it.
