REQUEST: CHANGE THE NAME OF REVERE WARE
Date: December 19,
1999 To: Corning/Revere Consumer
Information Center
P.O. Box 1994
Waynesboro, VA 22980
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to you to request that you change the name of
Revere Ware to something else.
Revere Ware has been used in my family for over 50 years. My mother still
uses the set that was given to her as a wedding gift. I was given a set
as a wedding gift 10 years ago, and still use it. We recently went to the
store to purchase a new tea kettle. We instantly recognized the Revere
Tea Kettle and purchase it. When we got home and removed the kettle from
the box, I noticed something was wrong. It was light and flimsy, it
looked as though it was fashioned from tin cans. I was quite confused. I
took out a frying pan from my cupboard and held it in my hand. It was
heavy, rugged and built to last. I turned the pan over and looked at the
image of the bust of Paul Revere stamped on the bottom. Under the image
it said Revere Ware Clinton Ill. I went to my mother’s house and looked
at hers. Underneath it was stamped Revere Ware Riverside Cal. I looked
at my new tea kettle again and turned it over, underneath was stamped
Revere Ware Korea. I promptly boxed it up and returned it to the store
where I purchase it.
Forgive me for being nostalgic over pots and pans, but I learned how to
cook on Revere Ware. I have used it my whole life.
I don’t understand the corporate philosophy that is behind decisions like
this, but I think you have forgotten something. You see, terms like
quality, craftsmanship and lasting beauty are more than words printed on
the side of a box. And tradition is meaningless unless it is followed.
That is why I am requesting that you change the name of Revere Ware to
something else.
I think it would be healthy for every member of the Board of Directors of
Corning Consumer Products Company to get on an old pair of jeans and a
T-shirt. Step outside of the Board Room and into the Sunlight. Get on
your knees and place your ears to the ground. If you listen very hard,
you will hear the sound of Paul Revere turning over in his grave!
