BUCHANAN: BUSH ‘CHILDISHLY NAÏVE... A CLINTONITE FELLOW TRAVELER’
VIENNA, VA – Today, Presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan released
the following statement:
“Yesterday, the real George W. Bush stood up; and revealed himself to be a
Clintonite fellow traveler on foreign policy. Mr. Bush endorsed a Clinton
trade policy that has given Beijing $300 billion in trade surpluses since
1993, money Beijing has used for the military buildup that now threatens
Taiwan and the U.S. 7th Fleet.
“Mr. Bush purrs that Beijing is simply our ‘competitor.’ This is
childishly naive. In truth, Beijing is a paranoid tyranny that bullies
small countries, persecutes Christians, sterilizes women for the crime of
having a second child, brutalizes harmless dissidents, and exploits the
bottomless greed of a cynical global corporate elite.
“Tuesday, Mr. Bush backed Mr. Clinton by publicly denouncing a bipartisan
Senate effort to impose a date certain for withdrawal of U.S. troops from
the Balkan quagmire. A vote for Bush is thus a vote to continue a Clinton
foreign policy that puts the commands of the Global Economy ahead of human
rights, American workers, and the national security of the United States.
“Mrs. Reagan’s endorsement notwithstanding, the nomination of George W.
Bush spells the death of Reaganite realism in U.S. foreign policy in the
GOP. The old indictment stands: Today’s Republican Party loves commerce
more than it loathes Communism.”
