BUCHANAN: 'THREE DAYS OF MOBOCRACY IN CHINA IS ENOUGH'
Today Presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan released the following
statement on the riots at the American embassy in China:
"While the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade was a mistake -- for
which the U.S. government rightly expressed regret -- the mob action outside
our embassy in Beijing is a deliberate insult and affront to the United
States. The Chinese regime is consciously stoking anti-Americanism among
the Chinese people. For two days, the U.S. ambassador has been a virtual
hostage.
"Beijing's response to the unfortunate accident in Belgrade is not that of
a friend, or a 'strategic partner' of the United States, but of an
antagonistic and hostile regime spoiling for a quarrel.
"Three days of mobocracy in China is enough. If the rioters and
rock-throwers are not removed from the U.S. embassy and our ambassador is
not freed immediately, the President should call in China's ambassador and
tell him Beijing's privileged trade status will be revoked if the nonsense
does not end within 24 hours."
