BUCHANAN LEADS CONSERVATIVE CONTENDERS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
MCLEAN, VA -- According to the American Research Group's (ARG) latest poll
of 450 New Hampshire Republicans conducted July 8-12, Pat Buchanan has
become the leading conservative candidate in the nation's first primary
state. "Populist firebrand Pat Buchanan once again appears to be winning the battle of the right," Business Week writes of the new poll.
Mr. Buchanan's 9% showing places him ahead of Elizabeth Dole (7%), Alan
Keyes (4%), Dan Quayle (3%), Steve Forbes (2%), Lamar Alexander (2%), and
Gary Bauer (1%).
George W. Bush leads the New Hampshire poll, but in today's Manchester
Union Leader, John DiStaso writes, "[ARG President Dick] Bennett pointed
out that while Bush has a big lead, 'recent history suggests that early
front-runners may stumble.' He said that in May 1995, for instance, Bob
Dole led closest rival Buchanan 44 to 13 percent. Buchanan won the
primary by a single percentage point."
"Following his landslide victory in New Hampshire's Granite State Straw
Poll, Pat has emerged as the conservative alternative to the Establishment
candidates," senior advisor Bay Buchanan said.
