BUCHANAN TO BUSH:
'YOU CAN'T HIDE FOREVER'
DETROIT, MI- Yesterday, George W. Bush claimed that Pat Buchanan was
leaving the Republican Party because his message "was rejected by
Republicans." The truth is that George W. Bush fears that Republicans will
respond to Buchanan's message.
"A plurality of Republicans opposed NAFTA as a sell-out of American workers,"
Mr. Buchanan said. "Seventy-five percent of the American
people want legal immigration scaled back and illegal immigration halted
entirely-an issue Gov. Bush has studiously refused to discuss. And the
majority of Americans don't want to send our soldiers to fight in foreign
wars like Kosovo that don't threaten our interests and are none of our business.
Yesterday, advisors to the Governor told the New York Times, "that they
would never consent to include Mr. Buchanan in a candidates' debate."
"If I secure the Reform Party nomination, Mr.Buchanan said,
"Mr. Bush will be unable to avoid
the kind of rough and tumble debates he obviously dreads. Mr.
Bush's persistent strategy of ducking debate is no preparation for a
candidate-no matter how untutored-who aspires to lead the United States.
You can run, Governor, but you can't hide forever."
